I’m sorry that I haven’t responded before now! I know it can be hard to find a suboxone doctor with openings, let alone a sub doctor with similar treatment goals!

Have you utilized this search engine?

http://www.suboxone.com/patients/opioid_dependence/find_a_doctor.aspx

You have to enter your zip code and how far you would travel. Or there is this one:

http://www.treatmentmatch.org/

At this site you create a profile to help match you with a doctor.

Good luck to you and welcome to our forum!

Hi,

Torment on the drug or getting off it,?

Hey, everything has its negatives, but, most people would be hard pressed to say opiates aren’t pleasureable.
The opposite, for people getting off them.

I hear what your saying, and its sounds like your not cooked yet..As you say, you feel a bit fragile, and you fear using, if clean.
Fair enough.
I don;t know how old you are, or what stage in your life you are, or what you have been through.
But, I know all opiates are a short term fix, instead of ong term happiness.

Hypothetically,
If you could painlessly detox off bupe, and get back to that state, before you ever used, despite having the knowledge of your past addiction,. You would feel pretty damn good. lets face it, your body produces opiates naturally.
When you walk, when you move etc. (endogenous opiiods)
So why be greedy?.
Its like in lfe we get this choice,. To have super charged opiate levels, that can only lead to trouble, or just accept, that once, we did not need a pill to be happy.

It is that fear of WD and the sensation of pain, that drive this addiction. it is all in that moment, when common sense turns to fear. Anxiety kicks in, panic, then its back to addiction cycle.

When I said cooked before, i mean, it sounds that for this moment in your life, you should stay on the bupe. It took me 5 years, till I thought i was ready.(cooked)
Bupe is the place to be, to get your life back together, and then just wait till your sick enough off it, and the BS that comes with it. ie dr.s stigma, laziness, depersonalisation, no socail life, over sleeping, and every day, month year on these cray maintenance drugs, the hole just gets that little deeper to get out of.

Mate, I’m over 40, have almost been through every addiction in the book, most of us have. It was the world around me, when I moved out of home, and ventured into this crazy world.

Cigarettes, amphetamines, opiods Have now stopped them all.
I know where this road leads, and it is not for me. I could never give up before, either, any of the DOC’s
I would always restart, after a month, a year, i just did not know why. But I kept trying,
I kinda learnt, with cigs, that if i cut a slither of the nicotine patch every other day, It might work,
It did, for me,.
Its a false economy, artificial opiates, just stick to natural, I say.

Just do whatever makes you happy, This makes me happy.

Dee your doing a amazing job. And you know what. Want to be free is right. I think (not a fact) that since your allready withdrawing at that dose you are better off just continuing on! If you need to use some Imodium to help with the runs. It works great. Sometimes i would take up to 12 to 20mgs of lopermide to help. Yes it seems like a lot. But subs are just as bad at constipating you. So i swear by it. It helps! But only use it when you feel you need to! Absolutely get clondine since it helps keep your body from going hot/cold and will help with sleep if need be. If possible get a small amount of benzos to help with the anxiety which i know is a bad symptom for me. Klonopin is what i recommend since it lasts a long time. But ativan, xanax, or even valium are all good choices. But use them only for a few days. That’s if you aren’t against the idea of using benzos. Some say seroquel is bad for opiate withdraw. But i swear seroquel helps me immensely for sleep. Very low dosages though. Like 25-50mgs. Also i know this detox place that offers at the end of suboxone tapers tramadol 50mgs to be used for 7 days. Starting at 200mg’s and working your way down gradually. But at the very least get clondine!

I really hope to see you get through this as it empowers me to keep distancing myself away from this drug as best as i can! And once you feel better. You can maybe cheer me on when i get to where your at! Good job on the damage control of tapering to the point where you are now! It has to get bad before it gets better. Maybe try a flush kit to help your body out! Keep pushing! It will be over before you know it!

Hey Will, really appreciate your post. I am off to my GP in two hrs and going to write some of this stuff down. Hopefully the doctor helps me and does not tell me to go back to the drug service because they won’t give me anything but zopiclone. I am already feeling really anxious and emotional so will def ask for something for that. Will write down what you’ve wrote and speak to the doctor. I will def take some help to try and ease some of these symptoms. I am not taking any more suboxone as you’re right..what’s the point when i’m already in withdrawal. Just got to try and get some meds to help today and ride this rollercoaster till it lets me get off!!

I know what you mean by these threads empowering you..if I can help you then that also helps me Smile This is such a great place for all of us coming off suboxone. I just keep reading all the threads and it gives me strength.

Once again thanks for your helpful post. I will update later after i’ve seen my GP. Fingers crossed he helps me.

Hi Lana and welcome to the forum!! I’m glad you found us! You will find that people here have had a variety of experiences on sub. Some of us have done just fine and others have had numerous problems with side effects and tapering.

To answer some of your questions: no, there is not, to my knowledge, any limit on the length of time you can be on suboxone when you’re on Medicaid. It really depends on the sub doctor. Some doctors want you to spend as little time possible on sub, while others advocate lifetime maintenance. What does your doctor say? My doctor acknowledges that some people will need to be on sub for a lifetime, but will help his patients taper off of it if that’s what they want to do.

I believe you are correct that there may be a connection between elevated liver enzymes and suboxone use. I don’t know of any definitive studies that prove cause and effect, but there appears to be anecdotal evidence of this. I am aware of a couple of herbs that are supposed to help the liver function better. They are milk thistle and dandelion root. I wouldn’t start taking them, however, unless you doctor thinks it’s OK.

I hope I’ve answered some of your questions. Another member is likely to come along and provide more expertise. Smile
