About to make the CRAWL off of Sub SCARED!

Salem – I’m so happy you’re doing well. I’m definately in the "it’s not that bad" camp, and I cringe when people automatically jump in and say, just wait, your PAWS hasn’t even set in yet. For me, that just wasn’t the case. I think what you pointed out was the key…any negatives I might have felt were far outweighed by the smiling, laughing, heightened sex drive and other pluses of getting off opiates!
But you are also so right that STAYING CLEAN is the real beast. As soon as you feel anywhere near normal, and it sounds like you are there, you need to start Working your program of recovery, whatever that may be. Maybe we should change the section entitled "bupe in the rearview" to "let’s now support each other in our sobriety". I’ve seen a lot of people who I have cheered through their Sub WD (myself included) come back and say they relapsed. There has to be a way we can make this work!
Keep up the good work,
Lilly

I think that’s part of what I was getting at. I honestly wonder how many people back then got off opiates and stayed off. The ones who did get off and stay off, were those folks a "tougher breed" than we are today?

I know from my experience of getting off opiates, it can be a grueling process and there’s no question about it….it does take a certain mental fortitude to do it. Staying clean also takes a certain "strength", along with changing your view on many aspects of life. Did folks back then have more of this "strength" than we do today or were they failing left, right and center?

I guess we’ll never really know? I just thought it was an interesting mental exercise to think back to before Suboxone, Celebrity Rehabs and whatnot and wonder what those folks did?

After a week or so, the pain was gone. But I began to notice a strange little silent wheezing sensation when every inhale and exhale I took, even the tiniest intake or exhale would trigger the sensation.

I can’t relate to the edema, this has never happened to me but I did develop soft wheezing like you described, I’d say about 3 years into my suboxone treatment. It freaked me out. It was more prevalent when I inhaled then exhaled. I wondered if I had allergies or food caught in my lungs. I went to the doctor but they weren’t helpful. It lasted off and on for the rest of sub treatment and now that I’ve quit, I don’t wheeze at all.

Oh and I’m not overweight, I’m relatively young/ active, and have no chronic illnesses. Nor did I ever have bronchitis or anything like that.
