Not doing too well…

Hey TJ,

Glad to read you’re doing a bit better on the new meds. This whole bi-polar thing spins my brain around. Did this exist 100 years ago? I think back then they just threw you in the dungeon if you showed any mental illness.

Your illness is on my mind quite a lot. My wife’s ex best friend is mostly manic but she disappears when it goes the other way. Most of her problem is meth, and that’s why she’s an "ex" BF. She uses meth to stay out of the depression part. But now she looks and acts like an old time meth addict. No real grasp of reality anymore. Very sad.

You may or may not remember, but about 5 years ago, the man who literally saved my life in AA committed suicide. The county hospital doctor cut him off his bi-polar meds. He hung himself right in front of the building so they’d see what the results were of his mis-treatment. That one hit me hard and I wondered why he didn’t call me like he had done in the past. His girlfriend told me that when his meds were cut off he started drinking again after 25 years of sobriety. He was so ashamed of it he didn’t call me.

So when you talk about your illness, it always makes me a bit sad. Please be a good boy and take your meds even if they aren’t perfect. It really sucks to be an addict on top of that.

My Dr Shut Me off Suboxone for NO REASON!! – Legal Options??

I dont think there is a legal position here that would be able to do anything. Although, if they are in breech of their own contracts that might be the only thing that you can go with. They usually give you something that you have to sign that is basically their rules, how things are run in their clinic. The ones that I have been to which is only two but they had a list of rules that I had to sign. If there is nothing in those rules about the situation that you are in and they still refused you medication then wouldnt that be a breech of contract? Medical Negligence? I mean these people are basically nothing but brilliant con artists from what I have seen, they say one thing but when it comes down to it their motive is always something else.
The only leg that I think that you might have to stand on would be if they broke their own rules and this could be classified as medical negligence. I wish that we had some of the doctors in our area that some of the others have posted about, the doctors around here could give a shit less if you are in withdrawals, if you have enough to get you through a move whatever the case may be.
The doctor that I see now told me well if this new treatment comes through, the under skin thing you only have to come in once every six months. Well there is no law that says that you cant get refills of suboxone so why couldnt you do that for me now? He says that he wants to see you once a month to see how things are going……
Its ridiculous how doctors can treat people and get away with it because they think that they have the best lawyers around and they make so much damn money off us, hell they can buy people off. IF you do get a lawyer to sue them and there is a case found, please stick it to them as hard as possible. Drain them dry, it serves them right for doing this to you. If it had been my mother, she would have threatened to their face of getting a lawyer but shes just crazy that way. She thinks if she does that, it will get something done. Most of the time it just pisses people off more and they wont fool with you.
This just sounds to me like medical negligence. You called them and said that your life was basically in danger of yourself, around here by law they are required to call the ambulance and have them come and take you to the ER. If they get out here and you refuse to go or whatever, then they have every right to stop treatment. Report this to your newstations around as well. I find that if you get the word of mouth out there about the way this doctor is treating people, it might hurt the pocketbook that way some. Never really know….
My mother in law threatened to just get up and walk off and not tell anyone where she was going, we called the hospital because she has mental problems. We told them what was going on and they said, well we can try to come out and get her. The only way that we can force her to go is if she has tried to commit suicide or if she is hurting herself or someone else. If we get there and she is basically just walking down the street, there is nothing that can be done.
I really hope that you get something done here no matter what it might be. If its getting another doctor and getting your medication or if its sticking it to them. Just keep us informed, I would like to see how all of this pans out.

Going back to opiates to get off Suboxone

Ive done what you are considering doing. I was on subs for 5 years and decided the only way I would ever be able to quit would be by going back to full opiates for a few weeks and then quitting those opiates which should make the withdrawals pass much more quickly.

Do what you want, but as a fellow opiate addict that this was one of the worst ideas I ever had, but then again it did work.

To answer your questions, I was pretty tappered down on my subs when i did this, so I went only 24 hours after my last dose of sub to when i started the full opiates and the full opiates (morphine in this case) were effective, although no euphoria (then again, it was morphine so not much of a head high anyways). I remained on full opiates (mix of what I could get, morphine, vics, tramadol, and benzos bc I was stupid) for 21 days before I quit. I loved the full opiates so much after going back on them that I never would of quit if I didnt get arrested for a DUI on the 21st day.

To make a really long story short, I then quit al opiates after day 21. I withdrawaled from the opiates, probably some of the sub still, and my new-found benzo addiction. It was the worst withdrawal of my life, but I felt 100% back to normal after 14 days.

What I found is you can shorten the length of sub withdrawal by doing this, but the intensity of the w/d will increase a ton and it will still be a longer withdrawal compared to if u never were on subs.

Long term patient being kicked off sub. PLEASE HELP!

Hi oft,

If it were me, I would go tell all this to a new sub doctor. Either tell them you need help tapering or you’re not ready to come off. You can anonymously register at treatmentmatch.org and sub doctors will contact you, sometimes very quickly. Get more info at Naabt.org.

What happened to you is messed up but some doctors get into sub dispensing without really having a full grasp of it. Maybe they believe the r&b suboxone reps when they told them it is easy and painless to come off at 2mg.

It also seems like your dr. was mad because you weren’t following his directions and now he is done with you. Unfortunately, this does happen every once and a while and I believe the doctor has the law on his side in this type of situation. I don’t think there is much you can do legally. And next time with a new doctor you can say ‘hey, 12mg is too much for me, it makes me feel loopy’ and they will lower your dose, or they should…

i don’t mind being on subs and i been on it for over 3 years and a high dose. i just don’t like the way it’s handled and the trouble peaple can get in to being on it. i seem to be doing better the longer i’m on it and not worse. it’s good to be here for us.
