First time. need assistance

There’s probably more accuracy in that I’m misunderstanding the doc.

Anyway, I went back for my initial visit and now that I’ve gone a couple days things have stabilized. Found out the problem with me being dizzy was that I haver vertigo. So i got stuff for that.

other than that, I think the mood swings have settled, and I’m feeling pretty much fantastic!

So i thought I’d make one last post here, and thank everyone for the concern and thoughtful feedback.

Having things to read to help me through this was instrumental in making it a good transition.

Thank you everyone

Amy. You’re right. I just used those exact words recently…that moderation is not in the cards for us anymore. Thing is…people keep fighting me over it… saying that opiates are the problem but they can moderately use other drugs and alcohol. Am I crazy or does that just sound insane? An addict is an addict. A brain disease.

MM, I was specifically responding to this post. I’m an opiate addict and I cannot use opiates in a responsible or correct manner. Apparently, for me, I can use alcohol in an appropriate manner.

Apart from responding to that particular comment, I just wanted to gently nudge you into writing about your experience instead of assuming that what is true for you is true for others. That’s all. Smile

sub makes me sick

There are some people who are sensitive to medications and suboxone is a strong medication. I have a friend who gets sick on anything (anti-depressants, non-narcotic pain medications, blood pressure meds, etc.) unless she starts slow and then builds up to a working dose.

Mmolinde, being nauseous all the time is super annoying and I can see why you’re asking for help. When I was withdrawing from my drug of choice before my sub induction I was given an anti-nausea prescription from my doctor for Hyoscyamine. It could be that an anti-nausea medication may help you, so ask your prescribing doctor.

If, like a few people on this forum, the medication turns out to be worse for you than the disease, tapering may be your best course. It seems really strange and atypical that dropping from 12 mg to 10 mg would make you so sick within a 24 hour period. Because sub has such a long half-life, a decrease in dose usually wouldn’t be felt until day 3 or 4 of the new dose. Perhaps you’re so sensitive to this medication that even slight fluctuations feel terrible?

My recommendation for a taper schedule is to drop by 1 or 2 mg every couple of weeks until you get down to about 6 mg/day. Then start dropping by .5 – 1.0 mg every couple of weeks, or until you feel stabilized at the new dose. If, at any point, you feel like you’re at a dose that is controlling your cravings while not causing bad side effects, just stay at that dose. If you still feel terrible on the sub keep tapering. You may have to go slower in your taper as you get down to a lower amount.

One potential problem for you to consider is that you may need another form of addiction treatment when/if you are completely off sub. I assume you started on sub for a reason. You might consider developing a different plan to fight your addiction.

Good luck and keep us posted!

P.S. Don’t be alarmed by the bickering on your thread. A spirited argument seems to have spilled over onto your thread. Wink

I flipped!!!

Ok, I’ll try to keep this short. My husband and I have been clean on subs for 6months, which is awesome. However, today was a huge test, and we failed. In my intro I talked about my marriage and how my husband had an affair while I was pregnant. He still works with her and was still talking to her, emails, im’s and texts. Well today they had an off site meeting all day. When I went to pick him up I passed her, I flipped the car around; I totally peeled out. Parked the car and yelled out her name. Next thing I know my hubby grabs my arm and pins me to the car. I wanted to jump her like a cougar.
We head home and she calls him, I talk to her. Blah blah. I’m rambling. Anyways, she ends up coming over, She texts my husband if I was going to hit her. I want to knock her a** out, but I can be an adult. In the end, she has I new job and he cut it off completely. I was so relieved. Here’s the part were we failed; I had a rx for tussianext(sp?) he went to fill it and we each drank 60ml. We felt a little, but I mostly felt guilt. I know it’s just a slip up, and what’s done is done. So now it’s back on subs, and one day at a time. Thanks for reading this, as I’m just bitching. It’s been one hell of a ride. I felt every emotion possible today.
