Just FYI: A second thread with the same exact topic was also posted in a different section of the forum. I deleted that second thread – just so you know. Best to keep it all in one thread, with all the responses in the same place.

Also I also went from methadone to suboxone. My dr. gave me a week on a weaker and short half life opiate to let the methadone leave my body. It’s likely that after two days yo have methadone in your receptors. Give it more time and I am sure you will get better. I’m a week into it and can tell you it does get better each day. The first 3 days were definitely rough but the reward is worth it.

I am sort of surprised that more Drs. do not give a week of short lasting weak opiates for Methadone to Sub users. I guess its because of the relapse potential. Wouldn’t there be a way to be able to make it a daily pickup?

I have no experience with methadone, in fact, I do not believe I ever took it. I did use lots of poppy pods, which is similar in half life. I would always taper myself off of poppy pods (with poppy pods) and found that it was easiest when I was able to get some codeine or tramadol too switch too before the jump. Tapering with poppy pods is hard because of the dose inconsistency, so you have to take big drops to make sure you are actually cutting your dose down.

Rule – I passed a very stuck kidney stone when I was on 4mgs of Sub. At the ER I had a shot of dilaudid & toradol, which worked but wore of pretty quickly. They sent me home after another shot of dilaudid with a scrip for 5mg percosets.

The percs did nothing when I tried to take them without the Sub…in fact I was in withdrawals and in pain. So I added about 1mg of Suboxone to the mix and it worked like a charm. The 1mg was enough to cover some receptors but leave enough open so that the percoset could work. And yes, I felt the percoset when I took it with the Suboxone.

I think the trick is to have the supplemental Suboxone dose low enough relative to your regular daily Suboxone dose so that it leaves some receptors open. So if you’re usually taking 4mgs, take 1mg or even .5mgs. If you’re usually on like 1mg of Sub a day and that’s what your body is used to, take like .25mgs of Sub.

I also had no problem stopping the pain meds once the stone passed and just upped my Sub dose back to 4mgs with no waiting and no problems.

For what it’s worth, I also passed another stone about 1 year off Sub and a 5mg percoset about knocked me on my ass…so tolerance does eventually return to normal after Suboxone.

Wink Wow it is always nice to hear the relief in someones writing when they have made the decision to give up the rat race along with all the deception and guilt. Keep us posted on your progress and welcome to the forum where you can always turn when you need support and/or answers.

After some thought, I think we’ve both decided to forego any prescriptions. While it seems so tempting… It also seems like such an excuse. I can live without much sleep for a few more weeks, lol… probably…. And damned if the tyrisone doesn’t really give you a mood/energy boost.
