I decided to try the RX Film Cutting Guide because I thought it would be helpful when I taper lower than 2 mg. I received the guide as an attachment to an email. I printed out two copies of the guide. One copy I keep for reference. The information on the sheet is both easy to understand and very detailed.
The template itself shows a true-to-size rectangle with overlapping lines that show the film cut evenly into 8 pieces. The lines are guides so when you lay your film on top you can follow the lines with an exact razor cut. There are two true-to-size templates. One represents an 8mg film, and the other represents a 2 mg film. On my second copy I cut out both of the film templates and put them in an EZ Sheet lamination that’s about 4 x6. They sell these at office supply stories to laminate IDs, business cards, etc.
Once I had my two templates laminated I laid my 2mg film over the 2 mg template and cut along the lines with a razor. Each of the 8 squares on the 2 mg template are .25mg in size. Just like each of the 8 squares on the 8 mg template are 1mg in size.
The other convenience of the template page is that it shows the smaller and smaller increments. For example, if you took one of the 8 squares from the 2mg film and cut the square into 4 equal tiny squares, each tiny square is .063mg. It is very easy to figure out how to taper down very low.
I haven’t been able to figure out any downside to the template, except that you need to laminate the template before you cut the films with a razor. In my opinion, the template is definitely worth the $5.00 charge.
Contact RXFCG if you want to purchase his template. There is a link to his cutting guide in his profile. Feel free to ask me any questions.
