This is my personal account re: suboxone and xanax (Benzodiapines):
I was addicted to Norco 10/325. I was taking about 20 a day and up to 60 pills on certain days. I tried to quit several times, using Xanax 2mg bars. I would taper my norcos and take 2mg xanax to zonk me out (they give me amnesia)… Anyways, I didn’t quit the Norcos and got addicted to the Xanax 2mg… taking up to 2 or 3 a night/day. I took xanax daily about 2 or 3 2mg pills a day for months, probably half a year.
I finally quit cold turkey off the Norcs… that was bad enough, but the Benzo withdrawal is HORRIBLE. Don’t take benzos. If you do, don’t do benzos.
I was so addicted to the benzos that I had to do the ashton taper, slowly reducing the amount of xanax and replacing it with a longer acting benzo, valium in my case. Anyways, I started my taper last May and I’m still not done! I replaced the xanax with valium (diazepam) and now only take diazepam… I went from 30mg diazepam a day and now I’m down to 8. I reduce 1mg of diazepam every two weeks and only take them at night.
Enter suboxone. Since I was opiate tolerant and benzo tolerant, my suboxone doc said it was OK to start the suboxone. I quit opiates last august and have been on 8mg sub since then. Actually this past two weeks I’m down to 4mg sub.
I wouldn’t recommend taking any benzo while on suboxone if you’re benzo naive, as it supposedly lowers your CNS and can die.
The xanax, like I said earlier, give me retrograde amnesia. I can function fine while i’m on them, I just won’t remember what I did the next day. For example, like an idiot I took my 8mg of diazepam… and in the morning I realized I had taken 100mg of diazepam (10 10mg pills). I don’t remember doing anything. My mom said she found me dozing off on the couch with some pills hanging out my lips. lol.
I also take .2mg clonodin for sleep. They zone me the FFFF out! Clonodin also helps A LOT for the WDs and help me sleep a good 4-6 hours, I’ve taken up to .5mg clonodin and woken up feeling like I fell off a ten story building.
