I take creatine as a work-out supplement and a few weeks back, I decided to start looking into a new brand of creatine because I was looking for better absorption. Anyway, during my research an article popped up about creatine being used to treat depression. I was quite surprised because I had never heard anything about it being used as an antidepressant.
I didn’t give it too much more thought until a few days ago. Every month or so, I rotate off my creatine for a little less than a week so my body doesn’t get used to it. For the past half year or so, I’ve been noticing that every month or so, my mood seems to cycle down for a few days, then it goes back up. For whatever reason, I wasn’t able to put 2 + 2 together until this last week.
Last week, I cycled of my creatine and sure enough, my mood and energy were zapped. Two days ago, I cycled back onto my creatine and my mood and energy are back to normal.
I just wanted to throw this out there for any of you suffering from depression and not getting the relief you want. Please do your own research before jumping on creatine. I did find an article about it that spoke of bad reactions for people who were diagnosed bi-polar.
