I had this problem when I first got on Suboxone…July 2008. It seemed to subside after a few months, no change in dosage or other medicines to attribute to it either. It just went away and returned to "normal"….
The only thing that I may differ in from others is that I drink coffee 24/7. At night, during the day…when I leave…I have a cup from a gas station that I keep with me at ALL times. And I mean, hot days, cold days..doesn’t matter. Part of this is because I began having problems with my teeth back in 2010 or so…from the years of opiate abuse. So drinking anything other than mildly warm drinks would send me into agonizing pain…
My wife and I had always been big coffee drinkers…started when we first got married and her parents would keep coffee at their house all the time….it sorta rubbed off. Then, I took a job where I had to be at work by 2am for a few years….and that really started my habit full force. I would carry my cup to work, and usually had a stanley thermos that I took full of coffee ….and since I was home before noon each day, I could drink coffee the entire time I was up and nobody thought anything of it.
But the tooth problems I’ve had the last 3 years or so have really boosted my coffee drinking….and I mean to exponential levels…I know I probably drink too much (I usually fill my cup 1-2 times an hour except at night)…
I’m surprised I don’t have bladder or kidney problems from it…but I’ve never had even the slightest UTI or any sign of problem. Maybe because the coffee keeps me going so regularly that there isn’t time for anything to set-up in my system…
I gotta say, when I increase my amount of drinking coffee (like during a road trip where I might stop every hour to fill up and drink it more rapidly than just sitting at home), I sometimes have to pee so badly that once I finally go, it actually "hurts" ….the only way I know to put it.
I remember before I quit abusing opiates…and during the first couple of months after I started Suboxone, that I would go pee and it would actually hurt …like I had been holding it for day (when I hadn’t) and once I finished, I would actually have to stand there and gather myself….it wasn’t sharp, "something’s wrong" pain…but more like that pain that you feel when you’ve held it in WAY too long..multiplied a bunch. That was scary, but it subsided when the ability to pee normally returned to it’s pre-Suboxone state.
Since that time, years ago, I’ve never had any experiences similar …the only thing I get now, is when I hold it too long, it still can be quite uncomfortable, and actually can still feel like I’ve held it for days…just not so much pain involved anymore.
I actually fear that one day I’ll have some problems from drinking so much coffee. Then again, they find things healthy that used to be "omg they kill you"….
I’m sure coffee has gone from "it’s going to kill you, turn your stomach black –because I drink mine without adding milk/sugar –, your kidneys will jump out of your body and run away after 20 years of coffee drinking, your bladder will explode at age 52 & 3months…among other medical things" to being "a cure all for all diseases known to mankind, poured into a gas tank will fix your car, unclogs toilets, and is generally an antibiotic for every infection.
