Pregnant, was on Suboxone, Doctor refuses to treat now

That is absolutely awful. I really am in disbelief that a doctor would do that just because you are pregnant. I have heard of doctors cutting people off cold turkey becasue they have failed a drug test, or ran out before there prescription ended but never becasue of a patient finding out they were expecting.

The first thing I would do is contact the state medical board and tell them what has happened. I would also suggest that you start tapering right now. I do not know what your dose is, but ideally you want to take the least amount as COMFORTABLY possible…it will be best for you and your unborn baby.

If you can somehow manage with what you have(getting your dose down safely) perhaps you can make it until the new doctors appointment. The other thing I would suggest is calling other doctors around. You can also try pleading with the new doctors office to get you in sooner.

The last resort in this situation would be to go to a public hospital’s emergency room if and when you run out. Tell them everything that has happened, that you are in WDS and ask if there is anything safe for you to take to help ease the WDS and protect your unborn baby from miscarriage. I do not know if the ER can give you Subtuex or not, but maybe they can or at can at least help some of your WDS especially if your BP/heart rate goes up(like mine does when I try to get off).

I am really sorry you are in this situation.

Answered you in PM but will lay it down here, too. Yes, 100% yes, this is normal. I don’t remember how long it lasted for but this happened for me as well. I washed sheets a lot. I would often get out of bed when I was cold and sweaty and take a hot bath. Not only would I feel clean but it would knock the chills/ sweats out and would relax me again.

Hang in there. =)

Howdy DD and Welcome to the forum.

IMO, I don’t see any problem with the different types of opiates you’ve been using when it comes time to induce again onto Suboxone. As long as you are in mild to moderate withdrawals then you should be fine. You’ve done it before so there isn’t much more we can tell you about that part.

May I ask why you don’t go see a Suboxone doctor and make it all legal? Isn’t the cost of Sub the same on the street as it is from a pharmacy? No need to answer the question if it’s personal, but wouldn’t life be much easier if you had a steady stream of Sub that was legal to take?

How long are you planning to stay on it? If you read a few of the past posts here regarding stopping Suboxone you’ll see that the slow taper works best. Maybe not for all, but most so far.

Whatever your motives are we still welcome you to join in our many discussions of recovery.

Thank you for the reply. I just have one daughter…though she is so busy, everyone says she like having 3 boys Smile
I would like another baby, but there is no way I am doing it while on subs. My husband, my daughter and the desire to give her a sibling is my motivation to stop, at least until I can begin to care of about myself enough.

I am a very busy person…perhaps borderline hyperactive. Before the economy tanked here, I was a restaurant manager at a busy touristy-type place…I speed-walked an average of 8 miles a night(my assistant gave me a pedometer as a joke, but I used it). When I was that busy, I would sometimes forget to take the subs…I felt so much better even then…but working that much was hard on my daughter. I am hoping to find a happy medium somewhere before I start this process. I have lowered my dose by 4 mg this past week and only had a few days of anxiety, though it was bad. I am hoping to be on the lowest dose by summer break…then I can take her to Florida to visit Grandma, and perhaps get off then.

Thank you for all the tips.

Okay, you hate Sub and don’t like the way you feel or look. I get that. Do you have a plan to change what you don’t like? If you hate Sub so much then how about putting together a plan to taper off of it? Just posting the anger isn’t going to help any. AA has an old saying "When you hit a wall, turn left". Sounds like you’ve hit a wall. What’s your plan?

Don’t take my post the wrong way. We’ll support you in whatever decision you make. But to complain and not ask for help is going to get you no where. There are plenty of others here who hate Suboxone, but if you read their posts you’ll see they are doing something about it. We also have a lot of members who are quite happy being on it and don’t plan on changing anytime soon so you won’t get any sympathy from them either.

Are you depressed? If so, are you taking something for it? Let us know how we can help you.

Hey TJ,

Glad to read you’re doing a bit better on the new meds. This whole bi-polar thing spins my brain around. Did this exist 100 years ago? I think back then they just threw you in the dungeon if you showed any mental illness.

Your illness is on my mind quite a lot. My wife’s ex best friend is mostly manic but she disappears when it goes the other way. Most of her problem is meth, and that’s why she’s an "ex" BF. She uses meth to stay out of the depression part. But now she looks and acts like an old time meth addict. No real grasp of reality anymore. Very sad.

You may or may not remember, but about 5 years ago, the man who literally saved my life in AA committed suicide. The county hospital doctor cut him off his bi-polar meds. He hung himself right in front of the building so they’d see what the results were of his mis-treatment. That one hit me hard and I wondered why he didn’t call me like he had done in the past. His girlfriend told me that when his meds were cut off he started drinking again after 25 years of sobriety. He was so ashamed of it he didn’t call me.

So when you talk about your illness, it always makes me a bit sad. Please be a good boy and take your meds even if they aren’t perfect. It really sucks to be an addict on top of that.
